2003 national officer slate: 2003-2005 nominations

The elections for Photographic Society of America national officers will take place in 2003. The Nominating Committee has submitted the list of nominees to the Secretary of the Society, Marilyn Hindman, APSA and it is published in this issue of the PSA Journal in accordance with the Bylaws. All nominees have agreed to serve, if elected, for two-year terms, taking office at the close of the International Conference in Houston, 2003.

The slate was prepared by the Nominating Committee under the chairmanship of J. Mark Southard, APSA. Committee members are: Meredith A. Hannah, FPSA; Norma J. Mastin, FPSA; Louis F. Romain, FPSA, EPSA; Lydia G. Savedoff, FPSA; Georgia L. Venk, FPSA.

Under the PSA Bylaws, Article VII, Section 5, petition nominations for these offices may be made by members. Details of the procedure may be obtained from PSA Headquarters. The last date for filing a valid petition this year is March 1st.

If the offices are uncontested, the Secretary is authorized by the Bylaws to cast the ballot of the entire Society for the slate published here, and the candidates shall thus be declared elected.

The nominees are as follows:

PRESIDENT

Richard M. Frieders, FPSA

Richard is founder and President of RMF Products, Inc. and is a designer of many electronic devices used in the audio/visual and photographic industries. He joined PSA in 1969, became a life member shortly thereafter, and received his APSA in 1982 and FPSA in 1989. He started and directed PSA's Consumer Products Show, PhotoUSA, from 1979 through 1983, and served as Conventions Vice President for 12 years. He also organized the PSA Electronic Imaging Division and served as its first Chairman. Recent responsibilities included serving as International Conventions Committee Chairman for two years and as Chairman of the Chicago Chapter of PSA. He has been a popular judge and presenter at many clubs and conferences on the local and national level. Other hobbies include computers and amateur radio (K9DKP). He is currently Executive Vice President.

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT

Dr. Andrew M. Wims

Andy has a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Howard University. After 32 years of service, he retired from General Motors as a Senior Staff Research Scientist in the Analytical Chemistry Department. Andy is a native Philadelphian who along with his wife Sara has made his home in Detroit. He is an active member of The Photographic Guild of Detroit, serving as president and chairman of the annual Photographic Seminar. Andy is a frequent judge and commentator for photo clubs and international salons. Andy has served PSA as both a member and chairman of the Certain Society Awards committee, Director of Region #16, three years as General Chairman of the Detroit International Exhibition, Commentator for Nature #1 portfolio and PSA Club Print Services judge. He has earned stars in Nature, Color Slides and Editorial.

SECRETARY

Carole B. Kropscot

Carole joined PSA in 1997. Her writing contributions to the Journal include articles and the monthly Electronic Imaging Division News column. Her many camera club activities include being an officer, newsletter editor, program presenter, and a representative for PSA and her local camera club council. She graduated from the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago. After teaching French for a few years, she stayed home to raise her children. Carol now concentrates on digital photography. Currently, she is the secretary for the Electronic Imaging Division.

TREASURER

Jeff Tamms, APSA, PPSA

A native of Wisconsin, Jeff has undergraduate degrees from the University of Wisconsin and advanced degrees, including his Ph.D., from Marquette University. He has worked around the world as a specialist in international software and consulting. He has served as President of the Photo Pictorialists of Milwaukee since 1992. He served as Vice Chair of the PSA Wisconsin Chapter for two years and then served two terms as Chairman. He originated the popular Wisconsin Circuit. He is one of the Top Ten North American Photojournalism Exhibitors. He holds 5 stars in Color Slides and Nature Slides and Photojournalism. He has managed and presented the 1998 and 1999 PSA Color Slide Exhibition, the 1999 PSA Pictorial Print Exhibition and the 2002 Photojournalism Exhibition. He has been a most dedicated contributor to the success of our annual conferences through his hard work on the equipment committee. In addition to all of the above, he is an accomplished sailor, doing development work on the America's Cup challenger!

CHAPTERS, CLUBS, & COUNCILS VICE PRESIDENT

M. Jack Worthen, FPSA

Jack retired from a career in advertising, illustrative and commercial photography, and color photolithography. He was selected as PSA's Area Representative for the year of 1992-1993. Jack's interest in PSA Chapters resulted in organizing and chartering the Wisconsin Chapter in 1992. Jack served as its first chairman. He has been an active promoter of the PSA Youth Showcase. He was awarded his Associate Honors at the Colorado Springs Conference and was elected a Fellow at the Albuquerque Conference. He is currently the Chapters, Clubs and Councils Vice President.
