PSA Journal, Jan, 2005 by J.J. Zaia
One of the youngest Chapters in the Photographic Society of America (PSA) is the Wisconsin Chapter, which was organized on May 17th, 1992, with Jack Worthen serving as the Chapter Chair. Jack received the Chapter's charter in October 1992 (at the PSA International Conference in Lake Tahoe, CA), which designated the entire state as the trading area.
Winning the Annual Chapters' Showcase in their first year of existence put the Chapter in the role of hosting and presenting the Showcase in 1994. That same year, after meeting with members of the Rocky Mountain Chapter, the Wisconsin Chapter established a Youth Showcase with the Milwaukee Public Schools. The success of this local youth program led Jack Worthen, APSA; Kathy Braun, APSA; and Gerry Emmerich, APSA, to establish the PSA Youth Exhibition (formerly known as the Chapter Youth Showcase). Additional Chapter activities include the PSA Headquarters Print Display, a local (Region 21) club and members' showcase, member dissolve shows on given topics, yearly outings, and programs by featured presenters.
Meetings are held in October, January, March, and May, one of which is usually a weekend outing. The Chapter's goal has been for greater involvement in PSA activities, such as members' participation in entering and judging division essay and photo story competitions, as well as newsletter and webpage competitions, hosting PSA International slide and print exhibitions, taking charge of PSA division interclub competitions, and arranging the programs and presenting at PSA International Conferences. And what other chapter can claim three of its members currently serving on PSA's Board of Directors? The multi-talented current group of officers, in addition to Chairman Kathy Braun, APSA, includes Vice-Chair Peter Skiba, Secretary Vern Leibbrandt, and Treasurer Nancy Klemp with Lynne Rieger producing In Focus, the newsletter which goes out to the membership five times a year. Check the newly-established website by Renee Skiba at psawisconsin.org.
