Foto fund raiser - Camera Club - Greater Lynn Photographic Association's fund raising event - Brief Article

PSA Journal, Feb, 2002 by Matt Daura

An annual auction of photographic equipment has become a regular fund raiser for the Greater Lynn Photographic Association (MA). For this auction, members are asked to gather up equipment or other things they find in surplus around the house, and bring them in to be auctioned off. Many members are also able to get donated items from their photo suppliers who will contribute items that might have been on their shelves for a long time. Since these slow moving items can be written off on their income tax returns, the photo supply stores are only too willing to donate them to the club.

The items to be auctioned must be tagged with the owner's name and a minimum price, or if no minimum, the donor should add "no minimum." The entire proceeds can be donated to the club if desired by noting that on the tag. If the item is not in working order, that should be noted also. Both members and nonmembers can participate in the selling and bidding.

For all items auctioned off, 10% of the selling price is retained by the club. In addition, one table is set up as a "flea market table." This table contains items that the owner wants to donate outright. The proceeds from all items sold here are clear profit for the club.

Coffee and donuts are also for sale at this event, which adds a small additional profit to the club treasury.
