Topic: RSS FeedDistinctive image: featuring … Timothy J. Vare, EPSA
PSA Journal, March, 2004
In this, the Journal's seventh edition of its Distinctive Image series, we feature the beautiful work of Timo J. Vare, EPSA, of Finland. As with all of the photographers invited to showcase just one aspect (one subject, genre, or technique) of their work, our featured image-maker this time does line medal-winning work in several subjects including nature, scenery and abstracts. The Journal has asked our featured photographer to share his winter scenes taken in his native country of Finland.
Timo Vare makes his living as a Paper Worker, having learned his work in Trade School. His favorite photography is nature. Mr. Vare began as a bird-watcher and then began taking photos of the birds some 27 years ago. Eventually the photography became his main area of interest. He currently photographs nature very widely: animals, plants, details of nature, as well as the birds with which he started.
At present he photographs mainly for international art exhibitions with some of his work sold through a picture library. Timo is a member of the Finnish Nature-Photographer's Association, Kouvolan Kameraseura, Anjalankosken Kameraseura and the Royal Photographic Society, in addition to the Photographic Society of America. Letters after his name include: ARPS, EFIAP, APSG, AWIER SEHKCPAC, SKSLM, Hon FEB, and EPSA. He holds a Galaxy 3 in CSD, Galaxy 1 in ND, 4 stars in PTD, 3 stars in Commerical Color and 1 star in Color prints.
Enjoy a sampling of the fine images by Timo J. Vare!
Artist's Statement
Winter in Finland is my favorite season of picture taking. Varying weather, subzero temperatures, early dusk of short winter days and falling snow make photography very challenging. Light in winter is often very impressive, and when it reflects off the snow, it creates a magical atmosphere. A walk in the wintery forest lit by moonlight is a wonderful experience!
Finland is a land of the midnight sun, so it's possible in summer to take pictures "round-the-clock." I think that, for me, early morning, late evening and summer nights are the most rewarding times to take photographs.
