Topic: RSS FeedCall for nominations: 2003 International Understanding Through Photography Award
PSA Journal, May, 2003 by Robert J. Leonard
Across the USA and around the world the PSA membership includes hundreds of accomplished photographers who've been involved in teaching, writing, and lecturing that has brought people together and facilitated their understanding of one another. The many PSAers who fit this description are likely candidates for the Photojournalism Division's International Understanding through Photography Award. To be considered for the award, a nomination made by one or more PSA members or by a club, council or other organization within PSA, must be prepared and submitted before the June 15, 2003 deadline. The name of the person selected will be engraved on the plaque and she or he will be honored at the Houston PSA Conference in September, joining the prestigious company of previous winners, from Edward Steichen in 1957 to David LaBelle in 2002.
The award, established in 1957, was originally sponsored by Nikon, then by the late Raymond A. Good, FPSA, and Ferne L. Good, APSA, from 1975 to 1995 and since then by the Photojournalism Division (PJD). The award is given annually by the PJD for outstanding contribution to the advancement of understanding through photography by lecturing, teaching, and publications. Members of the selection committee are all past winners of the award.
Selection Criteria and Procedures:
The nominee must be an accomplished photographer whose publications, lecturing, and teaching have clearly contributed to the advancement of understanding among people. If not a PSA member, the nominee should have a connection with the Society, such as having lectured at PSA functions, having advised and assisted the Society at large or constituent groups or members, and the like. The nomination, made by one or more PSA members or by a PSA-affiliated group, should consist of a specially-prepared one-page narrative outlining the nominee's lecturing, teaching, and publication activities that have contributed to understanding among people, and, if not a PSA member, noting the nominee's connection with PSA. In order to ensure timely receipt and to facilitate processing procedures, nominations should be submitted by e-mail, if possible, and must be received by the undersigned no later than June 15, 2003.
