Report of 2008 Annual Spring Board Meeting

PSA Journal, July, 2008 by Jean Timmermeister

The Board of Directors of the Photographic Society of America (PSA) met in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma at PSA Headquarters, the first weekend of April, with President Fred Greene, FPSA, EPSA, presiding. Except for one member who had a family medical situation, all Board members were in attendance (some coming in early to work on anniversary research and similar projects). The Finance Committee (Treasurer Lynn Thompson presiding) and the Executive Committee of five met prior to the full Board sessions.

A few items of interest to members will be the following--

* Approved recommendations of the Ethic Review Board regarding ethics infractions of a member-exhibitor

* Removed restriction that Board Members may not propose nor endorse candidates for 1) Society Recognition Awards and 2) Services Awards. (Board Members continue to be restricted from proposing or endorsing candidates for Honors)

* Approved several volunteers in the Region Directors program; approved two presidential appointments

* Viewed the results of the first judging of the anniversary book submissions. Determined General Chairman of the project

* Requested that Exhibition Services Vice President Terry Carroll ask that the Uniform Practices Advisory Committee (UPAC) investigate and review the overall Star Ratings situation. (Normally each Division would request any change(s) desired to its own Division's Star Ratings program to the UPAC, which request UPAC would study and then recommend approval or not by the Board.)

It is not possible to include all business in the short space allowed but the above list includes some topics.

At each PSA Board meeting it is always "business as usual" when members sit down to discuss each Board member's full agenda. The congenial group known as the Board of Directors works together and then likewise eats together. Past President Ralph Venk, Hon. FPSA and Georgia Venk, FPSA, came from nearby Norman, Oklahoma to join the Board at lunch on the second day of meetings.
