Your Holiday Cards

Do you use YOUR PHOTOS to create your own holiday greeting cards? Do you snail mail or e-mail them? Send me all the "how you did it" info. If I receive enough replies, I'll figure out a way to share it with the rest of the EID members, hopefully in time for you to make your own cards this year.

Send Me Your Photos 2003

Once again, it's time for me to borrow some of your digital photo prints to display at the annual PSA Conference. Conference attendees look at the prints in between attending the programs. Send me your digital prints or bring them to Houston. You can come to the EID table at the opening of the Division Center and place your photos into the displayed notebooks in the extra plastic pages. Please put your name and contact info on your prints. Remember to retrieve your prints on the last day of the Conference. Let me know right away if you plan to contribute some photos.

Visit the EID Table

If your timing is good, you can catch photo presentations on the laptop computers on the EID table in the Division Center. The shows are running whenever the laptop owner is available to monitor them. Browse the Division Center where each PSA Division sets up information on its own table. Pick up brochures to take back and distribute to your camera clubs. Promote PSA and EID in your hometown! On the EID table, you'll see many photos by your fellow EIDers in the colorful notebooks. And take time to read the accompanying "How I did it" so you can take home a new technique or idea!

EID--Video

The 9th Mississippi Valley Video International was held in May in St. Louis, MO.

The overall quality of the entered videos was very good--especially those with a story to tell; however, the judges felt the technical quality could have been better.

There was a bit of controversy after the competition, as several of the entries were made by video clubs rather than an individual. As a result, it was decided that the entries would be separated as follows: 1) an amateur working alone as an independent, or 2) a club entry.

It was felt this would encourage more independent entries.

An "independent entry" can have assistance with the sound track, editing, etc. Any type of equipment can be used for either independent or club entries.

Also, a new rule was made which states that "Each video must be made entirely by the amateur with no commercial objective."

The winners this year were: Best of Show: Mark Levy, NY--"Nature Calls"; Second Place: Bill Leeder, IL--"Canyon Contrasts"; Third Place: Malcom Colditz, TX "Beneath the Sea"; Highly Commended: David Fuller, Nanaimo, BC Canada--"Holes."

There were five 3-star awards and three 2-star awards.
