Kodak's Look at Life. - book reviews

PSA Journal, April, 1992 by W. Rankin

The Kodak International Newspaper Snapshot Awards (KINSA) is a 56 year old tradition for Kodak. KINSA is the largest continuously running amateur photographic contest in the world. More than 500,000 pictures were sent from more than 160 newspapers in Canada, Chile, Mexico and the United States for the 1991 contest. Each of the 160 newspapers received their photos by holding weekly photo contests. The newspapers' area winners were then sent to Kodak for judging. Kodak enlisted the help of many famous photographers to help in this task.

This is the first year in this contest that a book has been published of the winners. The book includes the 1991 winners and many past winners. The majority of the photographs were taken on negative color film which is the main part of the book. A small section shows the photographs taken with transparency film. Even though the word "snapshot" is in the title of the contest many of the photos shown are not just snapshots. Some are really outstanding photographs showing action, landscapes, environment, family, abstracts and other ideas and innovations.

The winning pictures for the contest are on display each year at Disney's Epcot Center in Orlando, Fla.
