A different kind of Model UN

UN Chronicle, Dec, 1991

The United Nations International School sponsors a rich and different kind of Model UN programme, which has taken place in the UN General Assembly Hall for the past 15 years.

It is conducted by 11th-and 12th-grade students who select a theme of universal importance, such as environment and human rights, and prepare working papers for discussion.

The objective is to present and assess various views on the issue, in order to stimulate student interest and enable them to understand world problems better.

During a two-day session, usually held in early spring, participants take their seats in the Assembly Hall to debate the conference theme.

Distinguished speakers, including diplomats, academics and specialists in various fields, also address the conference.

Students from a select number of schools in the New York area and across the country also attend the session.
