How deep does the conservative Federalist Society have its claws in the Justice Department? - Who's Who

Washington Monthly, Oct, 2002 by Susan Threadgill

How deep does the conservative Federalist Society have its claws in the Justice Department? Pretty deep, according to the speakers list for the group's upcoming 20th-anniversary gala. It includes no fewer than six out of the department's 10 assistant attorney generals: Ralph Boyd, Michael Chertoff, Viet Dinh, Charles James, Eileen O'Connor, and Tom Sansonetti.

And that doesn't even include Labor Secretary Elaine Chao, Energy Department general counsel Lee Otis, Health and Human Services general counsel Alex Azar, and deputy. White House counsel Tom Flanigan, each of whom is also scheduled to speak. The keynote speaker, then, is someone whose career they have reason to celebrate: former independent counsel Kenneth W. Starr.
