Speculation that Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) might run for president as a Democrat has diminished since the publication of his latest book, Worth the Fighting For, in which he writes, "I did not get to be president of the United States. And I doubt I shall have reason or opportunity to try again." But moves are afoot in the McCain camp.
Marshall Wittmann, a top adviser to McCain's 2000 campaign, recently left the GOP, following a similar move by fellow McCain adviser John Weaver earlier this year; last month, Wittmann signed on as McCain's new communications director. Is McCain running after all? At his recent book party, his wife, Cindy McCain, confided to a reporter that the couple's children support a switch.
