Class act

Washington Monthly, June, 2003

> Former RNC chairman and current Mississippi gubernatorial candidate Haley Barbour made memorable pitch for Head Start on a recent campaign swing. "Head Start is a godsend for Mississippi," said Barbour, a church deacon and Sunday school teacher. "Some of those kids in it would be better off sitting up on a piano bench at a whorehouse than where they are now." A spokesman later insisted Barbour "meant no disrespect."
