Cartoon creativity

Washington Monthly,  Sept, 2004  by Jed Spingarn

Justin Peters's "Toon In" (June) on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim is excellent. While much of today's TV comedy is in the hands of Hollywood executives trying to imitate past successes (If you loved "Friends," check out "Coupling"), Adult Swim shows are created by a group of guys in Atlanta who've been given the freedom to take chances. Their reward? Higher ratings than Letterman/Leno at a fraction of the cost.
