THE `VIRTUAL ECONOMY PORTFOLIO'

Lehman Brothers investment strategist Jeffrey Applegate devised this 34-stock portfolio to reflect the strength of technology businesses. He recommends that investors emphasize the stocks involved in infrastructure, applications and services over those involved in e-commerce and what he calls "intermediary" activities. Prices are to April 17.
