Performing Arts & Entertainment in Canada, Summer, 2000
Vancouver fans of Baroque music don't have to wait until Tafelmusik comes to town to indulge their pleasure.
From July 30 though August 18 the Vancouver Early Music Festival and Festival Vancouver present a wealth of public early music concerts. Musicians will be delighted by the huge range of workshops in Medieval and Baroque performance techniques.
A highlight of the summer is the full production of Monteverdi's Orfeo on August 1, 3 and 4 at the Vancouver Playhouse, with an instrumental ensemble including Concerto Paladino and an ensemble of strings led by David Douglass.
August 6 is "Day of the Baroque" with concerts by the Rose Consort of Viols from London; Camerata Trajectina from Utrecht and others, all on the campus of UBC. For complete festival information, check out www.earlymusic.bc.ca.
