Diana Isherwood

Performing Arts & Entertainment in Canada, Wntr, 1999

Five years of remarkable energy and dedication to Canadian Music Competitions, of creating a vibrant and effective Ontario Board, of new initiatives, of so many activities! Both at the National and Provincial levels, we are sorry to see Diana Isherwood step down from the presidency of the Ontario Board.

The past five years have seen two National Finals held in Toronto, both run with clock-work precision by the large team of volunteers assembled by Diana.

The local scene has been a busy one, with private house concerts raising funds for scholarships as well as providing performance opportunities for our young competitors. Many other concerts have been held, notably some memorable evenings in the North York Centre for the Performing Arts. Always thinking about where our youngsters could perform, and never shy of using her many contacts, Diana initiated many opportunities. She was the original organizer of the trips to Mexico that have been such an exciting experience for many competitors, a project now taken over by the National Office. With the help of the English Speaking Union of Canada, she planned and carried out the first of what we hope will become an annual performance tour to England. Last fall, she was instrumental in having one of our CMC competitors perform at the Canadian Consulate in New York City.

Perhaps Diana's greatest strength is her ability to involve people - she's a lady who just won't take "no" for an answer. The result is a strong and active Ontario Board. Diana will be continuing her involvement with the Board and we look forward to benefiting from her input and enthusiasm for many years to come.

DIANA ISHERWOOD, FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE ONTARIO BOARD. DIANA SERVED FIVE YEARS IN THE POST AND BROUGHT MANY ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS TO CANADIAN MUSIC COMPETITIONS.
