"Bravo!"
"These young performers are unbelievable!"
"I loved every minute of the afternoon!"
"How could I not continue to support such talent and commitment?"
These are a few comments from the audience surveys following two public concerts presented this season by the Oakville-Mississauga Chapter.
Our "Catch a Rising Star!" series showcased performers from the ages of ten to early twenties. It began at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts in November 1998, and featured 1998 National grand prize winner violinist Katie Stillman, as well as bass Robert Pomokov, and pianists Ilya Poletaev, Andrea Tu and newcomer Scott MacIntyre. The afternoon was hosted by Peter Oleskevitch, Assistant Director of Opera Hamilton, and jointly sponsored by St. Lawrence Cement and Holderbank Engineering Canada Ltd.
The second event, sponsored again this year by Bank of MontreaL, was held at the Mississauga Living Arts Centre in February 1999. It was hosted by John Barnum, conductor of the Mississauga Symphony. The near-capacity audience was delighted with the varied programme of fine performances by Miena Nakamura, piano, Marta Kretchkovsky, violin, Karen Ouzounian, cello, Eldon Ng, piano, and Michele Bogdanowicz, mezzo-soprano.
