Performing Arts & Entertainment in Canada, Autumn, 2001
Richmond, B.C.'s Gateway Theatre is selling a little sizzle with their steak through an ingenious twist on the usual range of e-marketing strategies. They're among the west-coast theatre and music companies that have partnered to create www.twofortheshow.com, a site where singles can find likeminded dates while they purchase tickets.
The Vancouver Opera, the Arts Club, the Vancouver Symphony and the Vancouver Playhouse are also among the choices for those seeking not only a pleasant evening out, but also someone to share it with. There's no charge for prospective show-goers to sign on as members. Once they're enroled, they can send online invitations to other members to join them for a specific performance. Each member pays his or her own way, and a modest fee applies to arrange side-by-side seating. Of course, not everyone using the site is looking for offstage romance, but who's to say that even Cupid's job can't be made a little easier through the Internet?
