Tafelmusik "A Baroque Feast/Festin Baroque" Analekta AN 2 9811

Performing Arts & Entertainment in Canada, Summer, 2002 by Sarah B. Hood

Recorded at a November 2001 concert at Toronto's Grace Church-on-the-Hill, Tafelmusik's newest release is Baroque for Dummies, performed by musicians who are anything but. Toronto's masters of period Baroque performance have produced an "easy listening" CD full of tunes that will be familiar even to those who might think they didn't know the first thing about ancient music.

It includes Handel's Arrival of the Queen of Sheba; Purcell's Suite from Abdelazar, and two cello concertos by Vivaldi, plus works by Bach, Locatelli and Alessandro Marcello. A great starter for someone who's just beginning to learn about Baroque and Classical music, and a pleasurable collection of confidently performed favourites for those already familiar with the repertoire.
