Caption: NEW POLICE CHIEF: Birmingham Mayor Bernard Kincaid (l) talks with the city's newly appointed police chief Annetta Nunn. Formerly deputy police chief, she is the first female to become chief. Nunn, on the force for 23 years, will assume her new duties March 7. She replaces Mike Coppage, who was picked to head the state's Public Safety Dept. In 1997, when former Mayor Richard Arrington set a goal for the department to cut crime by 15 percent, the north precinct under Nunn's command was the only one to do so, with a 16 percent decrease.
