Post office honors late Congressman

Caption: POST OFFICE HONORS LATE CONGRESSMAN: The late Los Angeles Congressman Julian C. Dixon (inset) was recently honored with the dedication of the Julian C. Dixon Post Office in the Crenshaw area of the city. On hand to celebrate the dedication were (l-r) California Assemblyman Mark Ridley-Thomas, famed attorney Johnnie L. Cochran Jr., Congresswoman Diane Watson, who introduced legislation to rename the facility, Betty Dixon, widow of the congressman, and James Smith, postmaster for the Los Angeles areas post offices. Dixon represented the 32nd Congressional District for 11 terms until his death in 2000. Watson succeeded him in a special election.
