Samantha Ivy, Daughter Of Nancy Wilson, Weds In Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

Jet, August 3, 1998

Samantha Ivy, the 23-year-old daughter of jazz legend Nancy Wilson, recently exchanged vows with Naeem Majied during an outdoor ceremony in suburban Los Angeles overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

In a double-ring ceremony in the elegant community of Rancho Palos Verdes, the bride wore a platinum, satin gown with antique trim and beading by designer Deanzign, who has designed for Ms. Wilson, Patti LaBelle and Paula Abdul.

The bride, following in her mother's footsteps, is a vocalist and the groom is a recording engineer who plans on serving as producer on his wife's album project. The groom is 23 as well.

The wedding opened with the voice of actor Avery Brooks, who made a tape of a poem dedicated to the couple. The reading of the poem was accompanied by the music of a harp. The ceremony was written by the bride's uncle, Elder Todd Davis, who also officiated the nuptials.

Ms. Wilson chose not to sing during her daughter's wedding, saying "It was my daughter's day." Vocal tributes to the couple were paid by gospel singers Tramaine Hawkins and Darryl Coley.

In addition to the harp, the 300 guests were treated to the music of a string orchestra. The wedding featured six flower girls, two of whom rolled out carriages of roses down the aisle. A 6-year-old page with an antique scroll with diamonds and crystals announced the arrival of the bride. The wedding colors were lavender, sea foam green and platinum.

The bride came down the hill escorted by her father, Wiley Burton. The ceremony took place in a garden on a hill overlooking the ocean.

When the couple completed the exchanging of the vows, 100 doves were released over the water.

The couple honeymooned in the U.S. Virgin Islands and will live in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles.
