HOW TO LIVE WITH AIDS: A Personal Story By Rae Lewis-Thornton
Jet, Feb 14, 2000
"People know me today. They love me and I love that. Prayers that people give me bring me energy. But that is not enough. The greatest gift that people can give to me is to keep themselves safe from HIV. I speak every day at colleges, high schools, churches and conferences, and I have learned that I am incapable of saving lives. At the most, I can give people my information and hope that they use it as a catalyst because only they can save their own lives.
"You know, I am probably happier now than I've ever been in my entire life. I am at peace with my life. I am so comfortable with who I am. And they tell me clinically, in the context of having advanced AIDS, I am healthier than I have been in the past seven years. I am happy that I am living, and I am grateful to God for this life's journey."
