The Bus travels down new career path, joins NBC as football analyst
Jet, March 20, 2006
Jerome "The Bus" Bettis is returning to the NFL next season after all.
The Pittsburgh Steelers running back retired after helping the Steelers beat the Seattle Seahawks 21-10 in the Super Bowl last month in his hometown of Detroit (Jet, Feb. 20). However, he didn't stay out of work too long and recently joined NBC's studio team as an analyst for Sunday night football games.
Bettis, who will be alongside Bob Costas and will venture into sideline reporting, prides himself on his honesty, and promises to tell nothing but the truth when he starts his new career move.
"It won't be difficult at all. The nature of this business is to call it as you see it. If you look at my track record in Pittsburgh, I've always told the truth. Honesty is the best policy. If a guy is not playing well, he knows it. I'm just telling the truth. As long as I call it like I see it, I'll be fine," said Bettis, the NFL's No. 5 career rusher.
His first game will be in Pittsburgh on September 7, when the Steelers receive Super Bowl rings.
