Thompson Family Of Surviving Sextuplets Get $210,000 Dream House In D.C

Jet, August 10, 1998

Linden and Jackie Thompson and their five surviving sextuplets who made headlines (JET, Jan. 5, 1998) recently stepped into their new $210,000, six-bedroom, Victorian-style home in the Northeast section of Washington, D.C.

It was a major event for their family and the local community. And, after requesting a moment of silence for their stillborn child, Allison, Jackie Thompson gave a heartfelt thanks on behalf of her family to everyone responsible for their new home.

The house was donated by the Freddie Mac Foundation. Freddie Mac is a D.C.-based corporation which supplies funds to mortgage lenders to support homeownership and rental housing. The foundation provides funds to nonprofit organizations working to aid children and their families.

"I will never forget this day and the people who made it possible," she said as she presented a plaque to Freddie Mac which read, "Home is Where the Heart Is."

Washington, D.C., Mayor Marion Barry and Vice President of Community Relations for Freddie Mac Maxine Baker Stokes were on hand for the dedication.

"I'm proud that the Thompsons understand that Washington, D.C., is the best place in America to live," said Mayor Barry, who made it possible for the Thompsons to receive five years' abatement on their property taxes.

"We wanted to help Jackie and Linden Thompson find their dream home," said Baker Stokes. "One in which their precious children can grow up."

Several very generous local contractors, headed by Hitt Contracting Inc., donated their time in renovating the Thompsons new home. The renovations were valued at $100,000, $50,000 of which was donated by Freddie Mac.

The 4,100 square foot, pastel pink, corner house is surrounded by a white picket fence. It has four levels, three-and-a-half baths, a large front porch, formal living room with a fireplace, a Florida room, a study, a formal dining room, a fully-equipped kitchen and a garage.

Once Reverend Ernest Gibson of the First Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church blessed the Thompsons' new home, there was a reception in their new backyard.

The day's events were truly amazing and certainly a blessing for the Thompson family, who finally moved from their three-bedroom apartment to their six-bedroom dream home.
