Jet, August 10, 1998

Cris Carter, the big-play wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, has inked a four-year contract extension with the team that is reportedly worth $23.5 million.

The deal, which includes a signing bonus of a little more than $6 million, makes Carter, 32, the NFL's highest-paid wide receiver, Vikings vice president Jeff Diamond told USA Today.

The Vikings picked Carter up prior to the 1990 season. He has been selected for five Pro Bowls.

He caught 89 passes last season for 1,069 yards and 13 touchdowns. He ranks seventh on the NFL's career receptions list with 756 and fourth on the touchdown list with 89.

Carter's new deal comes with one year remaining on his old contract.
