Who Are Hollywood's Sexiest Sisters?
Jet, Feb 15, 1999
Of all the beautiful actresses in Hollywood, Black women are among the most alluring. In addition to their wealth of talent, many of these "sisters" have an irresistible sexuality that comes across on movie and TV screens, keeping their legions of fans coming back and tuning in for more.
Just who are the sexiest sisters in Hollywood? Halle Berry, Vivica A. Fox, Lela Rochon, Vanessa L. Williams, Angela Bassett, Lisa Nicole Carson, Michael Michele, Wendy Raquel Robinson and Garcelle Beauvais are among the screen sirens who've got loads of talent and extraordinary looks to match.
Halle Berry has not only captivated audiences with her breathtaking beauty, but also with her wide range of acting skills. Her roles have ranged from the sexy home-girl types in B.A.P.S and Bulworth to the prim, pretty and proper characters as in the Harpo films/ABC TV miniseries "The Wedding."
None will forget Berry as the seductive secretary Rosetta Stone in The Flintstones, or her astounding portrayal of the strong and comely title character in the historical TV miniseries "Queen."
Vivica A. Fox's down-to-earth personality and sheer sex appeal have made her a Hollywood favorite. She captured many a heart with her starring role debut as an exotic dancer and single mother who was Will Smith's love interest in the box-office smash hit Independence Day in 1996. She played an alluring bank teller-turned-bank robber in the action thriller Set It Off, and she won critical acclaim for her portrayal of a strong, caring wife, mother and sister in Soul Food. But perhaps her sexiest role was as the sassy and seductive snow bunny Ms. B. Haven in the 1997 hit Batman & Robin.
Fox also tantalizes on TV as a sassy, sexy, smart executive on "Getting Personal," and she recently starred opposite David Allen Grier in the Disney TV movie, Saintly Switch.
Ravishing Lela Rochon, in her 1989 movie debut role in Harlem Nights with Eddie Murphy, brought so much pleasure to her customers as a glamorous "call girl," she was simply called Sunshine. She landed another sexy role when she worked with Murphy again as one of his romantic conquests in Boomerang. The former "Spuds Mackenzie" girl made quite an impression and has become a highly sought-after actress. She also made the screen sizzle in Waiting to Exhale as Robin Stokes, a sophisticated, professional young woman who, despite her good looks, was unlucky in love.
The last time moviegoers saw stunning Angela Bassett on the big screen, she was getting her groove on as a 40-year-old woman who falls for a much younger man in How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Bassett's captivating looks combined with her phenomenal talent keeps moviegoers coming back again and again.
Bassett first showed she would be something special in her film debut as a single mother who sends her son to live with his father to learn how to be a man in the 1991 film Boyz N The Hood. Her well-toned physique helped Bassett rock audiences as singer Tina Tuner in the film What's Love Got To Do With It which earned her an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe award.
In Waiting To Exhale, Bassett showed she could be sexy but deadly serious when she went on a rampage and burned all of her husband's things when he decides to leave her for another woman.
Vanessa L. Williams was a recognized talent and beauty before she hit the big screen. Her sexy voice on three hit albums, The Right Stuff (1988), The Comfort Zone (1991) and The Sweetest Days (1994), sold millions of copies and earned her many Grammy nominations. Her vocal talent won her an Oscar for Colors of the Wind, the theme from Disney's Pocahontas.
Williams won raves on Broadway in the title role of Kiss of the Spider Woman. And it was opposite box-office draw Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1996 action thriller Eraser that Williams made her big-screen starring debut.
Williams' fans also recall her as the beautiful nurse who was Laurence Fishburne's love interest in Hoodlum. She also starred with Fox as the smart, tough older sister in Soul Food, and the sexy goddess Calypso in the TV miniseries "The Odyssey."
She most recently heated up the movie screen, dirty dancing with Chayanne as the hot, but emotionally cool dance instructor Ruby in the sexy dance film Dance With Me.
Sassy and voluptuous, Lisa Nicole Carson takes sex appeal to another level in every role she plays.
A talented vocalist as well, Carson, on the hit TV sitcom "Ally McBeal," is attorney Renee Radick, the level-headed, cool, yet smoldering roommate of the show's title character.
Carson's animal magnetism and talent have been displayed in the hit movie Eve's Bayou, as a sultry adulteress who repeatedly seduces Samuel L. Jackson's married character, and in Devil in a Blue Dress as manipulative Coretta, opposite Denzel Washington.
The lovely Michael Michele made her movie debut opposite Wesley Snipes in the 1991 urban drama, New Jack City.
Michele, who seeks roles that are as challenging as she is beautiful, currently is seen as knockout Baltimore Police detective Rene Sheppard on TV's "Homicide: Life on the Street."
