HISTORIC BID: Anita DeFrantz is the first woman and the first Black ever to run for the presidency of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). DeFrantz, the highest-ranking American on the committee, cited more than two decades of service to the Olympics as she declared her candidacy for the most powerful job in international sports.

Though she is not considered a leading contender, the 48-year-old DeFrantz is confident she can successfully lead the IOC. "I have served the Olympic movement for 24 years, which is half my life," said DeFrantz, who is a former Olympic rower. "I believe I can fulfill my responsibilities best as president."
