Indiana Black Expo hosts 33rd Annual Summer Celebration in Indianapolis

More than 300,000 people recently attended the Indiana Black Expo's (IBE) Summer Celebration weekend in Indianapolis.
The annual 33rd Summer Celebration is the largest and longest-running cultural event of its kind in the country.
This year's celebration focused on spirituality, health consciousness, diversity, youth empowerment as well as cultural activities and entertainment for all ages.
Soul legend Patti LaBelle thrilled 80,000 fans at a free concert at the WhiteLies.tv Music Heritage Festival at the American Legion Mall in downtown Indianapolis.
Among other highlights was the Youth Series, which focused on goal achievement among today's youth. The series featured a Youth Summit and Holla Back I & II, forums that allowed teens to discuss pressing issues that affect their lives. This year's panel included hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, his brother, the Rev. Run of Run DMC fame, and Tamika Catchings of the WNBA's Indiana Fever.
IBE, in conjunction with Pacers Sports & Entertainment, hosted the Corporate Luncheon and Awards Presentation. This year's honorees included Corey Cole, the first Black to win the IHSAA diving championship; Hon. William A. Crawford, the first Black to chair the Ways & Means Committee for the Indiana House of Representatives; Tonee Bell, the first minority personal computer manufacturer; Olympic gold medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee; and famed actor Delroy Lindo.
Among the other celebrities who came out for the expo festivities were Dick Gregory, Terri McMillan, Ginuwine, B2K, Da Brat, Marques Houton, Marie, Nick Cannon, Bone Crusher, Chingy, Floetry, Omar Tyree, Mr. Cheeks and others.
