Todd Anderson is chosen as the No.1 NBA draft pick by the New Jersey Nets and signs a $30 million contract that changes his life instantly. He buys a new house and mistakenly invites family from the old neighborhood over for a cookout the same day he is scheduled for an endorsement interview. The cookout is like a giant reunion.

As the new Black man living in a stuffy White neighborhood, Todd attracts a lot of attention and all havoc breaks loose for the feast of Southern-style home cooking.
