Spring-cleaning tips for your home

Jet, March 27, 2006

Spring has officially arrived! And what better way to welcome the return of warm weather and get rid of dirt, dust and disorder than by doing a little spring-cleaning around the house.

If you're like many people, a thorough cleaning may only come once a year, which means that you may not clean every room in one day. To help stay focused, set some realistic goals by writing a "to do" list for each room. By crossing off each finished task as you go, you'll not only end up with a clean room, but you'll also feel a welcomed sense of accomplishment.

Before you begin the actual clean-up process, change your nice clothes and slip into something comfortable. Make sure that the garments you choose are items you don't mind getting dirty or stained Oust in case they're ruined).

Once you've decided on which room to tackle first, cleaning experts advise that you prepare a bucket stocked with cleaning supplies to take from one room to another. In most cases the items needed to do the trick are sponges or rags, paper towels, rubber gloves, plastic bags and your favorite cleaning product.

If you notice mold on your bathroom or kitchen surfaces, follow the I clean-up guidelines on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Web site at www.epa.gov. To eliminate the growth of mold, which can trigger asthma attacks, use an exhaust fan or open a window so that moisture is absorbed.

To make certain that dust mites aren't an issue in your home, the EPA advises that you vacuum carpets and rugs on a regular basis. And if you have an attachment, furniture and drapes should be included in your vacuuming as well.

Keep motivated while making your space spic and span by turning off the television and playing some upbeat music. Listening to your favorite tunes is sure to set your energy level on high, take the boredom out of cleaning and add some spring to your step.
