Tony Rankin, MD, chief of orthopaedic service at Providence Hospital, clinical professor of orthopaedic surgery at Howard University College of Medicine and clinical associate professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine, all located in Washington, D.C., has been elected the first Black president of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) during its recent 75th Annual Meeting in San Francisco. AAOS provides education and practice management services for orthopaedic surgeons and allied health professionals and serves more than 31,000 members.
