Bryant Gumbel And Wife, June, Finalize Divorce

Jet, Sept 10, 2001

The divorce of "The Early Show" host Bryant Gumbel and his wife, June Gumbel, is final.

The highly publicized divorce ended a four-year dispute that included allegations that the $5 million-a-year TV star had cheated with a series of women and had left her destitute.

Details of the agreement were sealed during proceedings in a Westchester County, NY, courtroom.

The New York Post reported that June Gumbel got the couple's Upper East Side apartment and Westchester estate, in addition to 50 percent of her ex's estimated $20 million worth.

"Mrs. Gumbel was satisfied that this part of her life is over and she can go on without the concerns she had before," said her attorney, Barry Slotnick. "It was sometimes a bitter process, but she's happy and satisfied."

The Gumbels, who were married 27 years, have two grown children, a son, Bradley, and a daughter, Jillian.

During the divorce proceedings, Slotnick charged that Bryant Gumbel was financially ignoring his estranged wife. In early 2000, Bryant Gumbel started paying court-ordered emergency relief--$4,000 a month, plus expenses that included her Visa bill, utilities and mortgage.
