Jametta O. Alston, city solicitor for Cranston, RI, was elected president of the Rhode Island Bar Association. She is the first Black to head the 106-year-old organization. Alston earned her law degree from Howard University School of Law and served as Rhode Island special assistant attorney general.
The Rhode Island Bar Association has more than 5,400 members all licensed to practice law in the state.
