Sizzling And Sexy Male Singers

Jet, March 6, 2000

D'Angelo, Eric Benet, Tyrese and Sisqo know how to make the ladies scream, swoon and lose control. Their mesmerizing vocals, tantalizing lyrics and sensuous charm have given them a whip appeal that has made them among music's sizzling and sexy male singers.

It's been five years since D'Angelo first hit the music scene with his multiplatinum, five-time Grammy nominated debut album Brown Sugar, which churned out the popular title track and the tune Lady. And, just like the old cliche says, good things come to those who wait, his hordes of adoring female fans will agree. With the recent release of his second album, Voodoo, the acclaimed singer-song-writer-producer-instrumentalist has put a spell on his listeners musically and visually. The project's smoldering current single Untitled (How Does It Feel?) is accompanied by a music video that has left many viewers in a trance. Singing in his trademark stimulating, high-pitched falsetto, the shirtless performer has everyone talking about the steamy video where he teases viewers by showing off his perfectly chiseled upper torso. Though it's been a while since his new album was released, his dreamy voice was heard on a duet with award-winning singer Lauryn Hill on Nothing Even Matters.

Eric Benet has not only won the heart of one of America's most beautiful actresses, his fiancee Halle Berry, but he's also won the hearts of music lovers with his honest lyrics which often celebrate women. His 1996 debut album, True To Myself, which featured the songs Let's Stay Together, Spiritual Thang and Femininity, only whet the appetite of his listeners. His latest album, A Day In The Life, has made him a music favorite with an even broader following thanks to his recently Grammy-nominated love ballad Spend My Life, a duet with Tamia. Benet's remake of the Toto classic Georgy Porgy, which he did with Faith Evans, also showcases his ability to captivate fans with a mid-tempo song.

With his bright smile, striking good looks and powerful singing voice, everyone knew that it was the real thing when Tyrese first stepped on the scene shortly after his memorable Coca-Cola television commercial. The MTV host-model has raked in scores of fans since the release of his self-titled debut album. His passionate pleas on the project's ballads Lately and Sweet Lady didn't go unnoticed. He belted out the tunes by giving his all, and just recently the bald and buffed crooner earned an American Music Award as Favorite New Soul Artist. Also, the tender melody Sweet Lady nabbed him a Grammy Award nomination.

Sizzling fits the energetic young performer Sisqo like a glove. He dances like Michael Jackson, delivers a tune like Bobby Womack and has the eccentric appearance of Dennis Rodman. Known as the lead singer of the smash group Dru Hill, Sisqo is enjoying solo success with his high-powered debut album, Unleash The Dragon. The fiery entertainer, who sang lead on the Dru Hill songs Tell Me, In My Bed, Never Make A Promise and How Deep Is Your Love? and helped Will Smith pump things up on the dance tune Wild Wild West, set the pace for his solo arrival with the up-tempo tune Got To Get It.

The romantic sound of Brian McKnight has been around for close to a decade. It's no wonder. You can't keep a good thing down and fans genuinely appreciate McKnight's warm music. His new album Back At One, featuring the gentle title track, recently garnered him a Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. McKnight's timeless hits include One Last Cry, Crazy Love, Anytime and You Should Be Mine. The suave writer-producer-arranger has so captured a massive appeal with his love songs that the syrupy ballad Every Beat Of My Heart was adopted as a theme of the TV soap opera "As The World Turns," while his poignant melody Still In Love continues to be a much-touted wedding favorite.

Maxwell seems to hypnotize women with his exotic look, silky sound and seductive lyrics. Since he first exploded on the music scene a few years ago, he's been pleasing music lovers down to the last drop. His alluring vocals have caressed such tunes as Til The Cops Come Knockin', Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder), Whenever, Wherever, Whatever, Luxury: Cococure and Fortunate.

Ladies love to look at and listen to Ginuwine. The popular singer is known for his hit songs such as Pony, Same Ol' G, So Anxious and None Of Ur Friends Business. Also a dynamically smooth dancer, Ginuwine recently lent his take-charge vocals on the song The Best Man I Can Be, which features Tyrese, Case and R.L. of the group Next, taken from The Best Man soundtrack.

Joe is the sultan of soundtrack love songs. The son of a preacher father and mother, Joe's list of credits consist of the ballads All The Things (Your Man Won't Do), (Don't Be A Menace . . . soundtrack), Don't Wanna Be A Player (Booty Call soundtrack), and his most recent hit I Wanna Know (The Wood soundtrack). Currently, he's teamed up with superstar diva Mariah Carey on the heartwrenching slow tune Thank God I Found You. Getting set to release his second album, tentatively titled My Name Is Joe, the serious entertainer's music has transcended audiences. He was lauded for his remixes of Barry White's duet with Tina Turner Never In Your Wildest Dreams and Tina Turner's Something Beautiful Remains.
