Some Parents upset To Learn O.J.'s Kids Are Attending Exclusive Florida Prep School

Jet, Sept 4, 2000

O.J. Simpson's children recently started school at the exclusive Gulliver Schools in Miami, FL, but some parents weren't pleased.

"I'm very upset over this ... No way could I see myself at a parent-teacher meeting interacting with O.J. Simpson," one unidentified woman vented to the New York Post.

Another woman, also unidentified, expressed the same frustration. "This school encourages parent participation, and I am not looking forward to having to meet with Mr. Simpson."

Sydney Simpson, 15, is in high school, while Justin Simpson, 13, is in middle school. The independent, coeducational, nonsectarian day school is one of the most exclusive private schools in Florida and runs $12,000 per student per year.

"When we lived in Los Angeles, the media respected the privacy of my children and their friends, and we hope that this will also be the case in Florida," Simpson said in a statement according to the Sun-Sentinel.

John Krutulis, a staff member at Gulliver, told the New York Post, "While they're here, they'll be treated just like any other kids. They'll be doing exactly what all the other kids have to do."

Although many parents aren't happy about the possibility of interacting with O.J. at the school, others didn't seem to mind, according to the Post. Some parents and students reportedly said they were excited about meeting the football great.

O.J. and the children recently moved to Florida after Juditha Brown, the mother of O.J.'s slain ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, agreed to allow the kids to move there with their father (JET, Aug. 28).
