Destiny's Child Talks About The Growing Pains Of Fame In September EBONY

Jet, Sept 4, 2000

No one knows better than Destiny's Child that success can be bittersweet. After losing two original members and more recently a replacement member, the group talks about the growing pains that came with fame in the September EBONY.

"I feel that everything happens for a reason," lead singer and group co-founder Beyonce Knowles tells EBONY of its much-publicized member changes that resulted in it becoming a trio.

In addition to Knowles, the group now consists of co-founder and original member Kelly Rowland and new member Michelle Williams.

This year the group's sophomore album, The Writing's On The Wall, has sold 5 million copies and churned out four Top 10 hit tunes.

EBONY talks to the ladies about their fame and how they've been able to keep the fire burning musically in spite of obstacles that nearly threatened to end the group.

In this issue you'll also learn more about the historic appointment of the Rev. Dr. Vashti McKenzie in "The Rev. Vashti McKenzie: First AME Female Bishop." You'll fall in love with 5-year-old Jordan Adams, the pint-sized pianist who has mastered classical music, in "Boy Wonder," and applaud the transformation that has taken place in the life of former singer Pebbles in "Sister Perri: The Preacher Formerly Known As Pebbles."

The September EBONY also features "Why So Many Stars Are Getting Pregnant First And Married Later (If Then)," "How to Propose To Your Man," "10 Ways To Get Your Share Of The $64 Billion Scholarship Boon," and "How I Made My First Million."
