Goldberg and Gregory feted at comedy festival

Comedian-actress Whoopi Goldberg is hugged by"60 Minutes" anchor Ed Bradley at this years U.S. Comedy Arts Festival (USCAF) held recently in Aspen, CO. Goldberg was honored with the 2002 American Film Institute Star Award which recognizes excellence in film and TV. She currently is executive producer of the Emmy Award-winning "Hollywood Squares" and the Lifetime drama "Strong Medicine," and is producing the upcoming films The Piano Man's Daughter and The Mao Game.

At right, comedian-activist Dick Gregory speaks during a Celebration of Free Speech tribute at the festival. One of today's most influential comedians and civil rights activists, Gregory was honored by the USCAF and the First Amendment Center for using comedy to fight poverty and racial bias. The annual comedy festival, sponsored by HBO, pays tribute to comedy's legends and innovators and showcases emerging talent, writers and filmmakers.
