Gospel group Mary Mary brings comfort and joy with hit `In the Morning'

Jet, Sept 23, 2002

Contemporary gospel duo Mary Mary continues to share the good news of the Lord with the duo's smash hit In The Morning from the CD Incredible.

Mary Mary are sisters Erica and Tina Campbell from Inglewood, CA, who won fame in 2000 with the up-tempo gospel tune Shackles.

Erica explains the pair's musical mission. "Gospel tells you about what God can do, it tells you the good news of Jesus. Because our music is so hip-hop and has an urban feel, a lot of people think, `Oh, it's inspirational, it's contemporary.' It can be. But listen to what we're saying in our songs which tell the message of Christ specifically."

The name of the hit group comes from two Marys in the Bible--Mary Magdalene, who was delivered from evil spirits, and the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus.

Highlights on the CD include Trouble Ain't, which "expresses the idea that things will change even when you don't think they will," says Erica.

Another standout tune is Little Girl, a song with a powerful message of self-esteem. Tina explains, "It's really about not measuring yourself against others, knowing that you are beautiful, you are smart, you have your own greatness and uniqueness, that God created you as perfect. It's about loving your own individuality and embracing it."

Reflecting on their growing popularity, the Grammy Award-winning singing sisters state, "God is good and we are so thankful for His many blessings. We just want to use our music to share the good news."
