Jet, Sept 23, 2002
After a decade of selling soul food in a can, Glory Foods, Inc. recently celebrated 10 glorious years in the industry by appointing G. Barry Huff president.
Huff, who previously was vice president of sales and marketing at Hoopeston Foods, Inc. in Bloomington, MN, succeeds the late William F. Williams, president and co-founder of Glory Foods.
As president of the Columbus, OH-based company, famous for its seasoned collard greens, black-eyed peas and other Southern-style foods, Huff will be responsible for developing marketing programs and services to enhance awareness and sales of Glory Foods products.
"Bill had a great vision: He saw an opportunity to market specifically to African-Americans, and he took something from nothing and generated a nice company," Huff said. "I hope to continue with the vision of Bill Williams and his team."
A native of Richmond Heights, FL, Huff received his MBA in marketing and industrial relations from the University of Iowa. He also holds a master's in speech and theater from the University of Michigan. Prior to joining Hoopeston Foods, Huff was a partner at the marketing and consulting firm of Becky Lerdal & Associates and was a marketing manager for the Pillsbury Company.
Founded in 1992 by the late William F. Williams, Iris Cooper and Dan Charna, Glory Foods is a manufacturer and distributor of Southern-style canned, frozen and fresh foods. Glory Foods products are available in more than 140 major retail chains in 31 states.
