Fort Jackson's new commander

Jet, Oct 4, 2004

Brigadier Gen. Abraham Turner (c) stands with Lt. Gen. Dennis Cavin as he waits to take command of Fort Jackson, the Army's largest training base, in Columbia, SC. Turner, a native of Mount Pleasant, SC, is the first Black to hold the top post. The fort, which trains up to 37,000 soldiers a year, will train about 9,000 more soldiers in the next year as the Army bulks up its numbers.
