Connie Payton (l), wife of the late NFL legend Walter Payton and vice president of the board/chairman of the Walter Payton Cancer Fund, joins Susan D. Waring, senior vice president and chief administrative officer of State Farm Life Insurance Companies, to honor women at the first Embrace Life Awards in New York.

The gala luncheon, held at the Tavern on the Green, honored five women who have inspired and persevered after the deaths of their spouses. The honorees were Jenna Jacobs-Dick, Debbie Forrest, Beatriz S. Gonzales, Mary Tupper and Illinois State Representative JoAnn Osmond. Payton, whose husband died of cancer in 1999, served as the event's featured speaker. To celebrate the achievements and share the life lessons of these women, State Farm will award each honoree a $5,000 cash prize.
