Confidential: Former N.C. Rep. Eva Clayton was appointed assistant director-general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization in Rome, Italy. She retired this year after serving 10 years in the U.S. House.... Former President Jimmy Carter was selected as the first recipient of the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies' Louis E. Martin Great American Award. He will be presented the award at the group's dinner on April 14 ... Newsmaker of the Year awards were presented to Secretary of State Colin Powell and Montgomery (MD) County Police Chief Charles Moose by the National Newspaper Publishers Assn. on March 21 in Washington. It marked the first time the achievements of the two public servants have been recognized by their own people.... Still not convinced a military attack against Iraq is in the best interest of our nation right now, ex-Black Caucus Chair Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson issued a statement agreeing with President George W. Bush that Saddam Hussein "is a dangerous man." She added, "It is now time to unite in our support for the 300,000 brave men and women who have been sent to the region." ... Georgia Rep.
