Soul singer Tyrone Davis, best known for his 1970 hit, Turn Back the Hands of Time, is resting comfortably at a Chicago hospital after he suffered a mild stroke, his family said.

Davis, 66, was listed in stable condition at JET press time, the family said in a press statement.

"Tyrone is in stable condition, and his wife, Mrs. Ann Davis, as well as the entire family wants everyone to know that they are deeply moved by all of the cards, calls, flowers and other expressions of concern," the family statement said.

"The family has asked that everyone please keep Tyrone in their prayers, and allow him the time and privacy to heal," it continued.

Davis' physician, Dr. Conrad May, said: "Mr. Davis has had diabetes for several years and is now experiencing some vascular complications as a result of this condition. He is receiving the best possible care designed to stabilize him for a speedy recovery."

The popular performer was inducted into the Rhythm and Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 1998. His breakthrough hit, the 1960s smash, Can I Change My Mind, was followed by Is It Something You've Got? and the '70s soul classic Turn Back the Hands of Time.

His latest CD, Tyrone Davis: The Legendary Hall of Famer, was just released.
