Caption: UNCF HONOREES: During the United Negro College Fund's (UNCF) 61st Annual Awards Dinner in New York City, UNCF President and CEO Dr. Michael L. Lomax (c) and UNCF Board Chairman Raymond V. Gilmartin (l) congratulate dinner honorees (l-r), Baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron and wife, Billye Aaron, UNCF President's Award recipients; New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, President's Award recipient; Virginia Union University alumnus and UNCF volunteer Ruth Jackson, Distinguished Alumni Award recipient; and actors Samuel L. Jackson and LaTanya Richardson Jackson, husband and wife, recipients of the Frederick D. Patterson Award, UNCF's highest honor, Held at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, some 1,500 people attended the event that annually celebrates the contributions of outstanding individuals. At the black-tie gala (below), Lomax and Gilmartin (r) joyously accept a $1.5 million Wal-Mart check to the UNCF presented by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. President and CEO H. Lee Scott, Jr. (l). The contribution supports UNCF's 38 colleges and establishes a scholarship program for students. Scott, a newly appointed UNCF Board member, served as dinner chairman. The dinner raised $2.5 million.
