Michael E. Flowers, a partner in the law firm of Bricker & Eckler LLP in Columbus, OH, is the first Black to be elected chair of the of the 53,000-member Business Law Section of the American Bar Association. As chair, Flowers will implement several new initiatives, including a Business Law Ambassadors program, in which the section will invite and fund minority lawyers. Additionally, Flowers will preside over the section and run its meetings.
Jo-Ann Henry, director of the Office of Diversity and Economic Opportunity at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), was appointed vice-president and chief human resources officer of Georgetown University. Henry brings more than 20 years of human resources experience to the university, including her tenure as director of human resources for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
William B. Moffitt, a criminal defense attorney and partner with the Washington, D.C., law firm of Asbill, Junkin & Moffitt, is the first Black president in 25 years of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (NACDL), whose mission is to ensure justice and due process. Moffitt, who has served on the NACDL's board of directors for 10 years, is only the second Black to hold the presidency in the organization's 40-year history.
Jo Ann Brown Davis, associate general counsel for Household Insurance Group Inc., has been promoted to general counsel. One of the highest-ranking Black females in the company, Davis, who is based in Bridgewater, NJ, supervises the group's legal affairs. A graduate of the University of Houston Law Center, Davis began her career with household as a clerk typist in New York. After leaving to pursue a law degree, Davis returned to Household in 1986.
Deborah D. Brannon, a key account manager for Pro-Line Corporation, has been promoted to Southwest regional sales manager. In her new position, Brannon, who has 20 years of experience in sales and management, will assume additional territories. Brannon, who has been a member of the Pro-Line sales team for the past five years and has increased sales of one account by nearly 330 percent, has a B.A. in journalism with an emphasis in public relations.
