Jet, March 26, 2001

Rep. William J. Jefferson (D-LA), a congressman who graduated from Harvard Law School and earned another law degree from Georgetown University (tax law) while in Congress, was named the chaff of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF), the educational arm of the political group in Washington, D.C.

Elected to Congress in 1990 to Louisiana's Second District, Jefferson was re-elected to his sixth term in the House. He serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and its subcommittees on Trade and Human Resources.

"I am extremely proud that my colleagues and the board of directors have selected me to lead the CBCF's efforts to assist today's leaders and to develop a new generation of public servants," Jefferson said.

The CBCF, a 25-year-old non-partisan, non-profit, public policy, research and educational institute, hosts an annual legislative conference in Washington and other leadership conferences and seminars to stimulate dialogue and to educate African-Americans in the fundamentals of the legislative process and public policy development.
