HILTON TO THE HALL: Hilton Smith, a right-handed pitcher who spent 13 years in the Negro Leagues, was recently elected to Baseball's Hall of Fame by the Veteran's Committee. Smith spent nearly his entire career with the Kansas City Monarchs. He began in 1933 then was out of the league for three seasons.

He resurfaced with the Monarchs in 1937 before he retired in 1948. Smith had a career record of 69-33. Following his baseball career, Smith was a teacher and a coach. He also was a scout for the Chicago Cubs until his death on November 18, 1983.
