Keys inducted Hayes, who performed his classic tune Theme From Shaft during the gala. The song for the 1971 movie Shaft won the soul man an Oscar and a Grammy, while the film's score netted him a Golden Globe and another Grammy. He is the first person in music history to have earned all three honors in the same year. Hayes and Keys first worked together in 1998 on the song Rock Wit You from the recent Shaft soundtrack for the 2000 remake of the classic flick. The song also appeared on Keys' Grammy Award-winning album Songs In A Minor. Other 2002 inductees included Brenda Lee, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Gene Pitney, Ramones and Talking Heads.
