Caption: U.S. MARTIAL, ARTS MASTER: Martial arts master Anthony Dew displays his letter of appointment to represent the United States in the World Games earlier this month in Athens, Greece. Dew is an eighth-degree black belt in the art of Shotokan Karate and is ranked among the world's best in martial arts fighting. A Williamsport PA, resident, he has been practicing karate for 34 years and entered the competition with a record of 88-8 in kickboxing. He said the World Games tournament is a chance for the elite in different martial arts forms to show the International Olympic Committee (IOC) what they've got. The IOC has only admitted Korean-style martial arts, called Tae Kwon Do, for premier events, and Dew said he hopes that the World Game competitions will convince officials and competitors that it's time for a change. Martial arts fighting is to be a featured event at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, Dew said.
